This thing was nothing but a giant annoyance and an un openable box. Possibly, if I beed attacked in my home, I could hit a burglar with it, but a frying pan to the head hurts just as much and really performs its meant function (unlike this safe).

The saga of this safe may go down in history as the biggest headache I have ever had with an product Vine or regular.

September, 2011: I get the safe in the mail and try to set it up. It doesn’t come with a safety key, so when I close the cover to set the lock code, it locks itself and will not open, with the 1 2 3 4 default code. No beeps, no nothing. I expected the batteries were backwards, and chalked it up to my own stupidity.

Nov, 2011: A notorized form, copy of my driver’s license, copy of the receipt, and a ten dollar check afterward, I received an envelope containing two keys (it only took some number of weeks to arrive, as seemingly my ten dollar check bought me only a dollar twenty nine in USPS postage). I set the code, tested it 20 or 30 times, tested it with my programmed in thumb, tested it with my husband’s programmed in thumb, programed a new code, tested opening it with the keys, , then decided to put my camera and passport in there. Stupid me for thinking those 20 30 successful uses were any indication of how the safe could work at some point. Seemingly, the flimsy plastic handle for the locking system decided it had worked hard enough and could not open the safe, no matter what system I tried to use.

Now: My camera and passport are hopelessly stuck in the locked safe. Called buyer service, but they seem to work only between two and four in the afternoon, because I keep to get the same recorded message.Read more & 8250;

I actually saved 30 off . You should probably take a look at this if you are thinking about getting it.

Should you buy it:

Unit looks constructed and hard, gas strut works nicely. Finger print reader is finicky. I stored many scans on the same finger to help with recognition. Expect it to be a little temperamental. I could purchase this again.

Is it worth the cost:

I must admit with most of the reviewers on Amazon, The construction quality of the plastic parts are poor, The metal parts are heavy and reasonably strong, The included Keys are cheaply made, The Biometric lock works but is somewhat temperamental, You have to be sure that your fingers aren’t moist or dirty and must align properly to record the 32 possible finger prints.

IMHO, The major reason one could purchase a safe with Biometric locking system is the fast easy use, But this drawer safe isn’t fast enough for that task, if you start fumbling with your fingers to get the Biometric lock to open and keep trying to open the safe in real have to open the drawer quickly to get a hold of your gun or another things in need you’re better off using the keypad or included keys which thankfully work just good.

As others have already pointed out, the locking system takes up too much space inside the safe, almost 40 of the useable space is wasted for the locking system and the rest eaten up by the included bubble material, if you get rid of the bubble, you may be able to most likely put couple of sheets of paper, many passports and a small size hand gun and many cash that is about it.

Is this drawer safe? Most likely not as it’s big for most drawers, but, you have the choice to screw it down to a floor inside your closet and it functions okay when laid flat on the ground.

Bottom line Is it worth the price? Most likely not, I could think about purchasing this if the price is half the MSRP as it’s still usable and okay product if you may be able to ignore the cheaply constructed plastic parts.
